Hi All,

We've unfortunately had several people pull out of the Ride Leader course on August 11, which means there are still plenty of spaces available. Due to the last minute nature of the availability we are offering the course for half price - $33. It would be much appreciated if you could circulate this among your members and encourage any riders who are ready to take the next step and lead their own BUG rides.

The course is not limited to BUG members (though it is exclusive to BNSW members) so if you know someone outside of your BUG with the requisite cycling experience please let them know about it.

Happy riding,

Matt

Hi all,

Bicycle NSW is holding another edition of our popular Ride Leader Course on Sunday 11 August at our office in Sydney Olympic Park (see the map here for exact location). The day will also provide an opportunity for experienced Ride Leaders to become qualified as Master Ride Leaders if they wish.

The cost of the day is $66, which includes refreshments throughout the day and a light lunch. Course starts at 8am sharp and runs until approximately 3pm. Participants (including the volunteer ‘actors’ that each candidate must bring with them) will need to be around for the whole time, but course organisers do everything they can to make the day run as quickly as possible.

The Course, which consists of a pre-course ride planning assignment plus a theory session and practical assessment on the day, provides skills that will improve your confidence and effectiveness leading recreational rides. The skills learnt in the course can be used by anyone who wants to manage a group of recreational riders safely and effectively, but the course is particularly beneficial for members of affiliated BUGs who want to become qualified Ride Leaders in order to access the liability coverage extended to Ride Leaders while leading sanctioned BUG rides.

In order to participate in the course you’ll need to be a confident rider, ideally with some practical experience of the wide range of factors that can affect a group ride. You must also be over 18 and be a current member of Bicycle NSW. If you are not currently a Bicycle NSW Member click here to join or renew. The course is open to all members of Bicycle NSW who have the required level of bike skill and ride experience (not just BUG members, although the associated insurance protection does not extend to these non-BUG members). Please let anybody in your network who you think may benefit from the Ride Leader course (e.g. community workers, road safety officers, teachers, police).

It promises to get a great day. If you'd like to be involved please contact me via programs at bicyclensw.org.au or on 9704 0808. More info at http://bicyclensw.org.au/programs/courses/leader/standard/.

Warm regards,

Matt
