Danny,
The letter is good, whatever version you end up with I'm sure will be
fine.
I have a more pessimistic view of the future. With the majority of the
population wedded to cars, I expect governments and society to spend
whatever is necessary to keep the car. How many people ALWAYS leave home
in a car, and see absolutely no alternative to the car no matter where
they are going? I'd guess a significant number. I suspect that many would
sacrifice their health, the environment, anything really, to keep their
cars.
I hope that I am wrong
leanne.

> Since January 2002 world oil prices have increased at an average rate of 60% per year and according to the International Energy Agency the increases are about to accelerate. Coal is Au$105 per tonne in Newcastle and a world shortage is predicted this year. NSW power stations are served by long term contracts at about a third of that price and the contracts are due for renewal.
>
> Is it any wonder that the NSW Government wants to sell off the power stations? The potential political damage of electricity prices quadrupling is inestimable. With energy prices increasing so will inflation and with another 0.5% rise in interest rates predicted, it is estimated another 300,000 mortgages will default.
>
> Where does this leave us? By 2015 there will be sufficient reduction in motor traffic caused by the above factors, to make cycling on the road a viable and financial necessity for a large segment of the population.
> As nation we need to commit the funding to lessen our dependence on oil and coal. One way to do this is to complete workable cycle way networks and to continue promoting public transport, cycling, and other human powered transport to increase, resource conservation, environmental, health and financial benefits.
>
> The future is; the legal priority of human power over motorised transport! We will reach a point where all motor powered vehicles must give way to human power in all conflict situations! A future where cyclists, pedestrians, skaters etc; have the legal muscle to used the roads with safety? With that, the infrastructure will develop to support the laws.
