Fellow CAMWESTies,
??????????????????????????????? sorry to bore you with details of the Spring Cycle again, http://www.springcycle.com.au/ but I need to get some things rolling straight away as I will be out of Sydney for about six weeks from 1 July 2008. I am riding from Broken Hill to Alice Springs with the Silver City Bush Treadlers Corella Dare.
I have already had a response from Lions International regarding breakfast catering at the Blacktown start.
We are looking for as many volunteers as we can muster for the day. Positions will be riding as well as non riding and include :-
Cyclists on Ground Support (COGS) this is a riding position & will entail some marshalling duties as well. You will be required to ride with the participants in pairs & offer assistance with gear problems & puncture repairs as well as encourageing riders who may be experiencing difficulties.
Sector Team Leaders: you will be responsible for a group of volunteer marshalls over a set area, usually 5-10 kilometres & may include up to 10 people. Your role will be to allocate their marshalling points, issue them with their volunteer packs & generally ensure they carry out their roles throughout the time they are required.
Route Marshalls: your role as a route marshall will be to stay at an allocated point and direct cyclists along the proper route. This may also involve stopping traffic on some minor roads. Major intersections will be controlled by Police & you may be required to assist a Police Officer at a busy intersection. If you are a cyclist, you will be able to ride to your point & join the Official last rider & continue to the finish. If you are a non rider, we will allocate a point that you can drive to or arrange for you to be delivered to that point & picked up after the last rider has passed through.
Start Venue Marshalls: There are many roles at the start of the event involving directng riders to the start, providing information to riders, directing drivers to drop off points & handing out volunteer packs .
Set Up & Pull Down Staff: As you can imagine, quite a bit of work goes on before & after such an event. Volunteers are required to assist with setting up the start venue & removing all traces of it after the event has cleared the venue. Set up will be done on the day prior to the event & dismantling will be finalised by 1130 hrs on the day of the event.
Do any of these roles appeal to you?? Interested in volunteering? There are four venues that require staff. Blacktown, Liverpool(WarwickFarm), North Sydney & Homebush Bay. All you need do is log on to the following website (http://www.springcycle.com.au/) & register your interest. Please remeber to nominate your preferred role & location. After you have done that, Bicycle NSW will contact you with further details such as briefing venues, roles and responsibilities. The website also sets out your rights as volunteers.
So, if you are interested in one of these roles, register without delay. If you know someone who may enjoy doing the same thing, encourage them to join us in this worthwhile cause.
