G'day all,
This article indicates that coal companies consider that global coal production is near a peak and that they will be able to demand much higher prices for the coal in the future.  The issue is the companies need to control the reserves to be able to sell the coal.  The same story has been happening with oil companies for years.

 What happens when you mix a sovereign debt crisis, with rising energy prices and the indebted countries have to import those energy commodities?
