What parents asked for in the brainstorming session
In
the open meeting held in the hall at Blaxcell Street Public
School at 9 AM, 2 June 2005, there was a brainstorming session in
which the principal, Alexandra Mandel, asked parents to suggest
things that could be the project in our application for the
Investing in Our Schools government programme. Here is
what the parents asked for:
- Air conditioning
- Toilets
- Upgrade
- Extra staff to keep them clean
- Before and after school care
- Table tennis and such sport equipment
- Upgrade electrical supply
- At present, can turn on one air conditioner in a year 6
classroom
- If turn on the air conditioner in a second year 6
classroom, the circuit trips
- Alarm system? There is already an alarm system.
- Improve gardens, footpaths, the way the school looks
- Separate football, basketball playing grounds
- Resurface oval, playground
- Playground equipment
- More computers in each classroom
- Separate play areas for youngest, older children
- Introduce arts and music subjects
- Upgrade PA system
- but the new hall will provide a good PA system
- Improve the facilities for the Chinese language classroom,
particularly:
- the size
- the lighting is very poor
Surprisingly, there was very little input from teachers.
They would have a good idea what they need for teaching.
