*Camellia/Clyde Cycleway *
In March 2010 consultation was undertaken with business owners/occupiers
and other interested parties, regarding the proposed cycleway link in
the following streets; Kendall, Martha, Wentworth, Kay and Unwin
Streets. The proposal included a combination of on-street cycleway line
marking as well as road narrowing with 'No Parking' along Kay Street
Camellia. This consultation included a mail out to potentially impacted
premises along Kay and Unwin Streets along the proposed route,
advertisement in both the Parramatta Advertiser and Parramatta Sun and
display on the Parramatta City Council website.
A total of seventeen responses were received regarding the proposal
including 4 written objections from potentially impacted business. Of
the 13 written supports, these were received from local business,
associations and cyclists.
The Parramatta Traffic Committee (PTC) at its meeting held on 8 April
2010 considered the report regarding the cycleway proposal. The PTC
recommended the report to council, subject to the provision of further
information relating to the objections received by council and loss of
car parking. Following investigation of these issues and alternative
routes (for example, utilising the track under James Ruse Drive) the
original route was recommended due to safety and cost considerations.
Council at its meeting on 28 April 2010 considered the PTC report and
additional information on the cycleway impact on parking and resolved,
in part: //
/‘//That, the Committee approve the proposed cycleway in Camellia as per
the attached concept plans//’/
As a result of council’s resolution, works will commence in June 2010
and be completed by late July 2010 weather permitting.
