We know this section was a vote buying exercise by Borger prior to the last state election, but now it is built there isn't much we can do except lobby very hard for the present mob to keep on building more paths.
There is an excellent corridor along the M4 suitable for shared paths, but what is also needed is feeder paths to connect to this one as well as the continuation of this path to the west.
This is a Nearmap capture of the new section under construction. In my opinion we should be pushing hard for the continuation of this work, a dedicated cycle connection to Merrylands Station & the Liverpool Rail trail and a dedicated north/south path through Parramatta to connect with the Parramatta Valley Cycleway. That would tie together Liverpool,Parramatta & Homebush via PVC & M4 cycleways.
When lobbying for these improvements, forget single references to cycleways, instead referring to shared paths and disabled access. Highlight the benefits of tying communities together by means other than motor car & public transport

Oh what I would give for $1m to spend in the rest of Holroyd, let alone five.
n some respects I agree with Liam, the design does seem like overkill
nd the RTA showing off what they can build.
A set of the fancy new cyclist triggered traffic lights like the ones at cnr.
umberland Hwy and Old Windsor Rd across Pitt St would have done the job;
eaving a lot of money for other upgrades and continuation of the 'plan' further
reckon with $5m I could have got the concrete all the way from Mays Hill to
Such a shame.

just rang Liam Pender, the author of the Parramatta Sun article on the M4
ycleway extension. He is a regular cyclist. His beef was that this
ycleway's $5.8m cost (I thought it was only meant to be $1m) could've been
uch better spent on other cycleways, or a cheaper alternative. He said
e's written many other articles for the Sun which are supportive of
ycling, and also that the editor of the Sun, Pat Stringa, is a keen
I suggested a followup story for him - getting the bollards removed on the
olroyd section. He's interested in doing this and is going to call me
omorrow. It's his last week at the Parramatta Sun so timing was lucky.
If any of you are around for a photo or interview, or if you have any
oints (and I will use the ones you've already given me Mark) to include,
lease let me know.
Incidentally I found out this morning that the council person I've been
ealing with, Stoyan Franca, is on leave till 13 Feb.
